Presentation of the GreenGT H2, the first electrical /The Automobile Club de l’Ouest
announced on Saturday June 2nd
the GreenGT H2 participation in the 2013
24 Hours of le Mans, using the 56th pit box.
As the autonomy of lithium/ion batteries proved to be the weak point that most needed improvement on the earlier GreenGT prototypes, hydrogen soon became the preferred alternative.
In 2011, GreenGT had a 100 kW fuel cell developed for it that can be integrated into both racing and road cars.
This fuel cell has been tested and is now operational. Since then, GreenGT has begun the construction of a new high-power fuel cell that provides 340 kW, or 460 hp.
In parallel, a new lightweight twin-engine powertrain, developing up to 400 kW, or 540 hp, has been developed for this prototype.
And the latest generation electronic control and telemetry system will ensure the best on-track performance of the prototype.
To comply with FIA rules and safety standards, a special chassis has been designed. Working for GreenGT, Gérard Welter and Soulignac Vincent, who are well known to Le Mans enthusiasts, have constructed it in accordance with the new technical constraints set by GreenGT and its innovative concepts.

No pollutants
No emissions of gas or CO2, or NOx, or any other pollutants are produced during the operation of an electric/hydrogen engine.
Renewable energy
The hydrogen comes from the electrolysis of water. The water is then recomposed during the production of electricity in the fuel cell. This same water can then be used again to re-produce the hydrogen.
Production of clean hydrogen
Hydrogen can also be produced perfectly by wind or solar energy systems.

Reliability
Electric motors have 5 times fewer parts than internal combustion engines and are therefore much more reliable.
Safety
Hydrogen is less flammable than petrol/gasoline. GreenGT H2's tanks are 10 times stronger than the monohulls containing the tanks of FIA approved prototypes.
Speed / Autonomy / Optimized Power Control
GreenGT H2 is expected to reach a speed close to 300km/h. With its on-board electrical control system, the GreenGT H2 can run for 40 min and its new electronic control system allows optimized cornering speeds.
